Heater Clip
Last Updated: 05/16/2013

Got Heat?  Hot air blowing out the vents no matter what you do? even with the AC on full blast?  This could be the infamous "heater clip failure".  The good news:  it's real cheap and easy to fix!

A threaded rod that controls the heater door is attached via a very small and brittle plastic support and metal clip.  The support ages and eventually cracks, throwing the clip to the floor and releasing the heat to the cabin.  This assembly is located just above the driver's right knee (LHD models).  The pictures really tell the story:

Note:  In late model cars, there is a plastic cover concealing this area.  Remove the three screws holding it on to remove.

Parts: 944.572.217.00 - metal clip, 944.572.314.00 - plastic support

Applications: 85.5-91 944, all 968
